A Grand Beginning

View Round the World on shoestring's travel map.

The bags are packed, the visas are organised, the fingers are crossed (that we haven't forgotten to do or bring something important) - even our Interrail tickets arrived on time (well, at 7.45am this morning, slightly earlier than expected).

After getting the train into central London from Epsom, then the tube (both very familar) it really feels like the journey begins here - the Eurostar departures terminal at the rather grand St Pancras station. Our train leaves at 4.22pm, due to arrive in Paris in time for dinner. Parfait!

The last few days have gone by in a bit of a blur - saying goodbye to friends and family, getting everything we need together and shopping for some last-minute essentials. It still somehow doesn't seem quite real - four months out of the country; a train journey from Moscow to Beijing; two months exploring the USA and Canada... but with our train boarding now it's beginning to seem a lot more real...
