How to eat for less than £10 a day: Part 5

View Round the World on shoestring's travel map.

Many hostels have kitchens for guests to prepare meals, and the HI hostel in Santa Monica offers one that is particularly large and well-equipped.

In the supermarket it's possible to buy food very cheaply, but only if you buy the largest size, which is large. If this costs around $5, then one half as large will probably cost around $4, and one half as large again will be about $3. So the smaller sizes end up being relatively expensive.

We'll be having pasta in sauce for the next four nights.

Geese! They don't like small measures do they. You'll be sick of the sight of pasta soon. No wonder they're all on the larger side with large portions of everything with a side as well. Hope you've managed to explore a little and go and people watch the locals. XXX
